About the Workshop

The Mainz Workshop on Foreign Direct Investment and Multinational Corporations is scheduled to take place each year in fall (November) and jointly organized by JProf. Konstantin Wacker, Prof. Philipp Harms (“International Economics”), and Dr. Nils Steiner (“Comparative Politics”) and supported by the JGU research unit “Interdisciplinary Public Policy” (IPP).

Calls for papers are usually issued in late spring (May/June).

The goal of the workshop is to foster the understanding of the role of FDI and multinationals in the world economy from a multi-disciplinary perspective, especially its interactions with politics, institutions, distributional aspects, and perceptions towards globalization. Furthermore, we support the interaction of researchers at various stages of their career.

Keynote speakers on the first three workshops were Ron Davies, Beata S. Javorcik, and Farid Toubal. Papers presented by workshop participants have been published in leading general interest and international economics field journals, such as European Economic Review or Canadian Journal of Economics. A list of abstracts can be found on the links for each workshop year (left panel of website).
